New Experiences Broaden “The View”

Forest View to host grand opening for new scratch/fresh food kitchen!

Temperance, Michigan, May 8, 2017:  This coming Tuesday, May 9th, 2017, Bedford will be gaining yet another one-of-a-kind attraction. Forest View Recreation Bar & Grill will now be featuring a fresh food experience with their new fully equipped kitchen. This is a whole new concept to the area as bowling entertainment and recreation meets full service restaurant!

Over the past nine months, Forest View has been slowly converting their current menu over to fresh food products. Now, they are going to continue to use their existing menu by fully switching over to scratch production. For the past 50+ years, Forest View only had 2 fryers, a small flattop grill, and a very petite service station. Tuesday will mark a new adventure for the business as they begin using the new equipment provided in the fully equipped kitchen. They will now have endless capabilities as they have upgraded to 6 ovens, 4 fryers, grill top, stove top with 4 burners, large flattop grill, a prep station, and a much larger service station. In addition, in June they will be opening their outdoor cooking experience with a 5-foot outdoor grill featuring a new menu every couple weeks of unique menu items grilled outdoors, while you enjoy their outdoor bar and patio. A truly one-of-a-kind experience in Bedford.

It has been almost a year since starting the new kitchen process. There have been many setbacks but nothing that would stop Forest View from having a real production kitchen. Owner Rich Kenny hired an executive chef two years ago with the promise that he would build a kitchen to meet the chef’s capabilities. Although it took longer than expected, executive chef Dave Harrison has hung in there and is glad that he did.

Chef Dave Harrison came to Forest View with over 17 years of professional management experience under his belt. Dave got his degree from the University of Toledo in Hospitality Management, however, that is not where his heart was. After receiving his degree, Dave shortly came to realize that he truly loved cooking more than anything else. His Mediterranean background and French cooking technique mixed with local and seasonal ingredients from local sources will ensure that Forest View will offer many food and beverage choices that cannot be found elsewhere.

Chef Dave stated “I am most excited to build the new menu and train the new staff. I want to find that diamond in the rough that wants to learn the cuisine!”

Chef Dave and his future full kitchen staff are going to be bringing many new things to Forest View. A limited pizza menu will be started this week and expand as the weeks go on. Desserts will also be starting this week with chocolate and vanilla Crème Brule. Later to come will be cheese cakes, molten lava cakes, homemade milkshakes and much more. Additionally, there will be a new wine and cocktail menu specifically designed to blend with new food items. Made from scratch sauces and condiments will be continuously expanding. To broaden the horizon for its customers, Forest View will also be coming out with gluten free and vegetarian options in the near future!

Forest View’s menu expansion, customizable catering, and full kitchen staff will lead to endless capabilities. It is far from what you would expect from a bowling and volleyball facility. Visit their busy year-round kitchen with fresh food and scratch production environment to check it out for yourself. The new kitchen hours will be Sunday through Tuesday 11am to 11pm and Wednesday through Saturday 11am to 1am.

Exercising

We all know that exercise is good for our bodies, but have you ever thought about why?  Exercise plays a huge part in keeping our muscles in proper tone, increasing our range of motion and helping our circulation.  But exercise is so much more than that……

Helps Prevent Diseases

Our bodies were meant to move — they actually crave exercise. Regular exercise is necessary for good health. It reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve your appearance and delay the aging process.

Improves Stamina

When you exercise, your body uses energy to keep going. Aerobic exercise like walking and bicycling improves your stamina by training your body to become more efficient and use less energy for the same amount of work. As your level improves, your heart rate and breathing rate return to resting levels much sooner from strenuous activity.

Exercising with weights and other forms of resistance training develops your muscles, bones and ligaments for increased strength and endurance, helps to fight osteoporosis. How Often Should I Exercise?

7 – 10 minutes Daily!!!!  People often assume that more is better. Wrong! Doing too much too soon or performing intense exercises on a daily basis will have adverse effects, such as muscle/tendon strains, loss of lean tissue, and fitness-level plateaus.

Stretching

Many people forget to stretch or make the excuse that they don’t have the time. Flexibility is important, so make the time! Stretching can be done every day for 5 – 10 minutes.

Enhance Flexibility

Stretching exercises are also important for good posture. They keep your body limber so that you can bend, reach and twist. Improving your flexibility through exercise reduces the chance of injury and improves balance and coordination. If you have stiff, tense areas, such as the upper back or neck, performing specific stretches can help “loosen” those muscles, helping you feel more relaxed.

Get Moving!

The goal of exercise is to push away from pain relief and push more toward reactivation and restoration of function.  Studies show that getting a chiropractic adjustment, along with daily exercising improves your quality of life.  So keep yourself moving.  Take breaks throughout the day at work to stretch or walk, especially if your job involves a lot of sitting which can be disruptive on your lumbar discs.  Remember that man is a complete ever moving mass of energy.

Forest View Recreation Bar & Grill 100 Days of Giving Campaign.

Giving back is taking your own time to help the people, places and things around you to ensure that this world can live in harmony for eons to come. Donating all your money or spending all of your time in a homeless shelter isn’t what it’s all about; it’s all about making a difference in your life, your community, and the world as a whole. Making a difference is standing out from the rest, doing things creatively, things no one else would think of doing. Americans are truly missing out on the greatest way to make a difference; giving back!

No matter how tough you think your life is, there’s always someone who has to face challenges that are even tougher than yours. Whether it’s food on the table, a roof over their head, an education, or paying for medical needs, someone somewhere is going without. Another way to look at it is that everyone, rich or poor, takes from society, and doing things such as volunteering is one way to show a sense of appreciation.

Having a positive impact on the community is easier than you may think. For example, by volunteering even a small amount of your time saves resources and provides valuable services so more money can be spent on local improvements. It beautifies the community by helping support local families, it improves schools, and supports our youth. Becoming engaged with your community unites people from diverse backgrounds to work toward a common goal while building camaraderie and teamwork. Not only does giving back help your community, but it also helps one’s self in many ways as well.

According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, giving back can: solve personal problems, strengthen communities, improve lives, connect to others, transform your life, and most of all help the people around you. Those individuals who give back also experience lower mortality rates, greater ability to function, and have less depression when aging than those who don’t give back actively.

Getting involved in giving back to your community is quite simple. Start by finding something that you are passionate about and find an organization that intertwines. There are so many ways to get involved including things such as donating your old clothes, reading to kindergarteners, or delivering an elderly person their “Meals on Wheels” on your lunch break. These types of things that will only take a few minutes out of your day, are privileges that not everyone has.

Helping others will make you feel gratitude, that you are appreciated, and knowing that you are making a difference, making you more open-minded and compassionate. People are so wrapped up in their busy lives that they forget the importance to stop, and take a minute to think of all the people that don’t have the opportunity to live a life full of enough activity to keep them busy. It is like when you don’t realize how great your head feels until you have a headache. It is a small sacrifice of a little bit of time to make a giant impact on someone else’s life!

Forest View Recreation Bar & Grill believes in giving back to the community in which they serve. This Memorial Day to Labor Day they are going to do just that as part of their 100 Days of Giving Campaign. They are going to dedicate 100 days to different fundraisers. 10% of sales from the Bar & Grill, open play volleyball, open play bowling, and indoor golf will be donated to clubs, organizations, and charities from around the area. From the library’s homepage at mymcls.com hover over the Research tab and then click Online Resources from the menu. Scroll down to the Business and Law category to find a list of business databases subscribed to by the library. Reference staff at the Bedford Branch Library are available to help users navigate the products.

Am I covered for this?

It’s Memorial weekend and the family is thrilled to be going to Florida to celebrate the start of summer.  You have your airline tickets, car rental is all lined up, the hotel and theme park reservations are made..time to get out of here!  You arrive at the airport in Orlando and rush to get your rental car.  The clerk behind the counter turns the rental car contract around so you can read it, initial it, and sign it so you can be on your way to Florida fun!

The clerk asks if you would like to purchase collision waiver for $20 per day so you don’t have to worry about being responsible for any scratches, dings, or accidents while renting their car.  Your memory goes back 20 years ago when you rented a car and you asked your insurance agent if you need to take out this waiver thing..and you remember them telling you it was not necessary because your full coverage you currently carry follows the rental vehicle so you are all set..so you think.

Two days later you go to leave for Universal Studio’s and you notice a hit and run driver has backed into the front of your car which damages the radiator and causes 6,000 in damage.  The car will be out of commission for 30 days.  You report the damage to your insurance agency and they pay the full amount minus your $500 deductible.  That was easy..right?  Well in less than 60 days you receive a bill from the rental car company for $4,500!  The first $1,500 is for LOSS OF USE (because the rental car company could not rent that vehicle for 30 days and lost $50 per day in rental fees) and the next $3,000 is for DIMINISHED VALUE (the rental car company was supposed to get $25,000 from Ford when they turned that 2017 Ford Taurus SHO back in on June 1st and because of the damage the value if that car went down $3,000).  What!! This is crazy..AM I COVERED FOR THIS?

Unfortunately, you probably are not.  Some insurance companies include LOSS OF USE into their auto policies but almost all companies exclude DIMINISHED VALUE.  You can endorse your auto policy to cover these 2 gaps but what is the rental car company going to change in their rental agreements next that will not be covered?  The best solution to this problem is to purchase collision waiver and pay the extra daily fee.  Not only will it cover the above 2 scenarios above but any other gaps as well.  You will not have a deductible to pay AND it will keep a claim off your insurance record.

Times change.  Rental agreements change.  What you were told 20 years ago has changed.  You need to contact your insurance agent today to find out what coverage you do or more importantly DO NOT HAVE.  Enjoy your summer!
